Question by xbrownangelx: Why is it important that practitioners plan effectively for children’s care and learning needs?
Why is is important that practitioners plan effectively to meet the care and learning needs of all children? Do you know of any research supporting the importance of planning effectively? Or evidence that does not support it i.e. a different view, etc.

This question has so many aspects that can be focused on ! Here are a few general points :

– each child is unique & has different abilities,capacities, learning skills, attention spans, socio-economic-educational backgrounds, etc. Hence, each child needs some sort of individual attention & detail.
– there are many students in each class, thus there is a Spectrum or Range of individual needs & abilities to be catered to.
– every student needs to be motivated, interested, involved, participative. This means the teacher needs to provide an inclusive & interest-generating environment.
– but there is also a time & space limit that is imposed due to the formal nature of the education system. Hence all activities should be completed within that time-frame.
– similarly, space & resources/finances can become an issue. The practitioner has to work around that or factor that in.

All these factors need to be considered by the practitioner in order to make the learning experience effective. And, to Implement it within the time-space-resource-individual parameters, a plan should be in place; content, strategies, activities, resources, etc. should be preplanned so as to avoid chaos, disinterest, or total failure to achieve objectives. If the teacher has planned meticulously beforehand, then s/he can focus more on the immediate dynamics than on thinking up & building the lesson/activity impromptu.
It does not mean that everything needs to be Structured. But planning ahead means you have a blueprint of the objectives, time, resources, needs, …. Also, it gives the teacher time to create or source resources that s/he may require rather than go to class empty-handed & realise that a relevant aid would’ve been appropriate to create interest And Understanding.
